This is my blog entry for today! It's way too warm for April, don't you think?

The butterflies might be out soon?

23 Things Part 5 - Flickr Mashups

Bummer! The Webmonkey page with the Top-Ten Mashups on Flickr isn't there anymore (Webmonkey itself has been moved - according to the comments, this happened back in the summer of 2008). The provided cache link in the comments also doesn't seem to work anymore. But a Google search did bring up an intersting and informative site here:

More on this Thing still to come!

23 Things Part 4 - Flickr and Digital Images

I hadn't played around with Flickr before. I knew it was out there, but never had taken the time to actually do anything with it! Now that I've had the chance to do some of the basics, I find that I like it! I think I may use the service as another way to save digital versions of the family photos. I won't trust it completely (I'll still save to an external drive as well), but I like the fact that it can be used to share photos with friends and family. Shutterfly has some of the same functionality, and I've used that service before, but not for batch uploads, or linking to blogs!

From my standpoint in IT, I think there could be some functionality for it's use professionally. The video upload capability could be used as I have thought of using Viddler - for demonstrating Tech Concepts, or as a storage area for such photos and videos to use elsewhere. Photos and digital files (like screenshots) can also be used for step-by-step instructions, and the fact that my "pig" graphic uploaded fine shows that.

What will be interesting to find out is how well the edit tools work with files that are uploaded! Lots to learn about on the Flickr site!

Here's the "photo" from Flickr (I didn't have a photo handy, but I wanted to see how the Flickr Posting tool worked). It works rather well!
